Altrad Beaver 84 Reports Massive Profit Gains

Beaver 84

Beaver 84, a UK leading supplier of scaffolding, fencing, groundwork’s and events has announced massive profit gains.

Recently published results reveal that scaffolding supplier Altrad Beaver 84 grew its profits by a staggering 53 per cent in the last financial year. Beaver 84’s success is a product of an improved purchasing strategy, freeing up cash to continue growth across the company’s three product sets, Access, Groundwork’s and Events.

As a result, new kit, partnerships, and a telling takeover of staging/structures/rigging and design specialist Star Events Group in the summer, have served to push up profitability without compromising quality.

Managing Director, Steve Tysoe, said: “As well as developing our existing portfolio, we looked to invest in products that clients were struggling to source. In the process, we grew the rental side of our business by 35 per cent, a fact reflected in the financial figures.”

Beaver 84 is closing in on two further acquisitions, as well as developing more equipment, and Tysoe expects to see similar growth in 2015.

Management reshuffle drives rapid growth for the TRAD Scaffolding Group

Following the acquisition of the TRAD Group in September 2013 by the International ALTRAD Group which has a 1 Billion Euros Turnover TRAD has experienced rapid growth across all three Companies in the TRAD Group resulting in a dynamic management re-structure becoming necessary.

Des Moore the Managing Director of TRAD Scaffolding for the past fifteen years is taking on the role of Group MD on a full time basis, this will enable Des to fully focus on orchestrating and managing the continued expansion of all three present Companies of the TRAD group being TRAD Hire & Sales Ltd, TRAD Safety Systems Ltd and TRAD Scaffolding Co Ltd over the coming years.

Neil Garner who previously held the position of Divisional Director of TRAD Scaffolding and who has risen through the ranks over the past twenty years has been promoted to Managing Director effective from the 1st of December 2014.

Peter McShane who has also risen through the ranks over the past twenty years with TRAD and previously held the position of Senior Contracts Manager has been promoted to the role of Divisional Director again effective from the 1st December. Peters Division is one of three Contracting Divisions in the TRAD Scaffolding Business the other two led by Chris Smith and Tony Mileham.

SCA Group Acquire Access Scaffolding IOW

The SCA Group become the largest provider of contract scaffolding on the Isle of Wight after the acquisition of Access Scaffolding IOW

The Multi-Discipline and Facilities Management company SCA Group, have recently completed the acquisition of Access Scaffolding IOW, and have formed a single division for our Isle of Wight operations that will become the largest provider of contract scaffolding on the island. Access Scaffolding IOW will exist as a wholly owned subsidiary of the SCA Group, with the existing owner, Ashley Palmer, excited to commit his future to the new venture.

Announced on the SCA Group’s website the article read:

Cape Agrees On Joint Venture With Prezioso Linjebygg SAS

Cape & Prezioso Linjebygg SAS join forces to create a ‘complete service capability’ to support the upcoming new-build nuclear programme in the UK.

Cape plc and Prezioso Linjebygg SAS, the international providers of essential support services to the energy and natural resources sectors, have announced that they have concluded an agreement to create a Joint Venture company to bring together the capacity, experience and skills of both organisations in order to support the upcoming new-build nuclear programme in the UK. The agreement is subject to necessary regulatory approvals.

BILFINGER Salamis wins £100m North Sea work

BILFINGER Salamis has won North Sea work contracts worth more than £100m in total in a sign that there is still business being done in the area in spite of the oil price slump.

The oil services business said it has own a series of deals in the last three months from clients including Taqa Bratani and Apache, both of which have big North Sea portfolios.

German-owned Bilfinger Salamis has own a five year contract from Taqa Bratani to work on all of the company’s UK assets, including the Harding platform 200 miles off Aberdeen.

The company has won a three year extension of a contract with Apache covering the Beryl A and B platforms 200 miles off Aberdeen.

The services it will provide include offshore inspection and specialist cleaning work and fire protection.

The Aberdeen-based company appeared to hold out the prospect that the contract wins could result in it creating additional jobs.

Managing director, Graham Hayward said:

“Looking forward, we will be continuing to reinforce our personnel resources in order to make full use of the potential offered by these contracts to our customers’ satisfaction.”

Bilfinger Salamis, which has more than 350 staff in Aberdeen and Lowestoft and 2,000 offshore, said it will recruit in line with clients’ requirements.

The contracts provide evidence that significant oil and gas companies are continuing to commit to long term maintenance contracts in the North Sea in spite of the challenges facing the industry.

Giants such as BP have announced plans to shed hundreds of jobs following a near 60 per cent fall in the oil price since June. Brent crude traded at $49.18 per barrel yesterday compared with $115/bbl in June.

While firms are expected to cut investment in new fields they will need to maintain spending on ensuring that existing assets are kept in good shape. Oil services firms that can help operators make savings may be able to win business from rivals.

Altrad Acquires Hertel For A £164M Deal

Altrad has entered into an agreement to acquire Hertel’s access, insulation, corrosion protection and mechanical businesses.

French mega company, Altrad is about to add yet another industry firm to it’s bursting business portfolio. Altrad and Hertel’s shareholders have reached an agreement for the acquisition of Hertel’s worldwide access solutions, insulation, corrosion protection and mechanical businesses. However, Hertel’s offshore business, which designs, constructs and delivers living quarters and accommodation modules, will not be included in the transaction.

The merger of Altrad and Hertel will have a joint annual turnover in excess of € 1.6 billion and employ approximately 17,000 people worldwide.

Hertel will continue to operate under its current leadership and the Hertel brand.

Previous UK acquisitions by Altrad include Trad, BarOmix, Belle Group, Beaver 84, NSG, Generation and MTD.

A statement on Hertel’s website reads: 

Altrad and the shareholders of Hertel have reached an agreement with respect to the acquisition by Altrad of Hertel’s worldwide access solutions, insulation, corrosion protection and mechanical businesses. This agreement has the full support of Hertel’s management, and is subject to the customary approval of competition authorities as well as completion of the consultation process with Hertel’s works council. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2015.

The combination of Altrad and Hertel, which will have a joint annual turnover in excess of € 1.6 billion and employing approximately 17,000 people, will result in a leading company in its businesses in Europe, the Middle East, Caspian and Asia Pacific.

Hertel Offshore, which designs, constructs and delivers living quarters and accommodation modules, will not be included in the transaction. Hertel Offshore will be continued under the ownership of NPM Capital and Sofinim (the development capital affiliate of Ackermans & van Haaren). Hertel’s senior management will stay involved with the Offshore operations. The Offshore business had a turnover of € 60 million in 2014. The business will change its name going forward.

Chris Sedgeman Wins Access & Scaffolding Specialist of the Year 2015

Cornish scaffold contractors Chris Sedgeman Scaffolding scoop the prestigious Construction News Access & Scaffolding Specialist Award.

At a star studded event at the Hilton in London yesterday (18 March) Chris Sedgeman Scaffolding Ltd for the 2nd year on the trot was awarded the accolade after fierce competition from the other finalists.

The judges said Sedgeman ticked all the boxes when making their decision on the winner after the firms performance on a challenging emergency project on the Cornish coastline in 2014.

In a incredibly short space of time over 35 tons of scaffolding were supplied and installed before the next storm hit the Cornish coastline. The firm developed innovative ideas for most of the scaffolds on site and played a crucial role in a very high-profile emergency project.

Cape awarded 5 year contract at Fawley Refinery

Cape plc has successfully obtained a 5-year contract with ExxonMobil for the supply of access, insulation and associated services to Fawley Refinery in the UK.

ExxonMobil is the world’s largest publicly traded international oil and gas company. It holds an industry-leading inventory of global oil and gas resources, is the world’s largest refiner and marketer of petroleum products, and its chemical company ranks among the world’s largest.

Cape won the contract following a detailed tender in 2014. Cape has previously supplied ExxonMobil with specialist access and thermal insulation services in support of maintenance and projects activities at Fawley Refinery. This is the first time, however, that ExxonMobil has chosen to combine the access and insulation under a single contract.

Cape secures two year contract extension with BP worth £100M

Cape plc, has announced that a new two year contract extension has been secured with BP with an estimated value of £100 million.

The contract will secure around 500 jobs for Cape employees providing a range of core services, including access, insulation, coating, passive fire protection and platform services on six North Sea assets and the Forties Pipeline Systems.

Cape Acquires Redhall Engineering

Cape plc broadens its portfolio after spending £6 million purchasing Redhall Engineering.

Energy services giant Cape plc, have announced in a press release that they have acquired Redhall Engineering Solutions Limited (“Redhall Engineering”), for a total of £6 million.

The acquisition will be funded from the Group’s existing debt facilities and is expected to be earnings enhancing in the current financial year.

Redhall Engineering employs approximately 420 people, primarily located in the UK and had revenues of £30.1 million for the year ending 30 September 2014. The business predominantly operates in the process and downstream oil & gas industries and provides a range of maintenance services including specialist pipe welding and repair, tank repair, bundle pulling and shutdown services.

Commenting on the acquisition, Joe Oatley CEO of Cape said:

“The acquisition of Redhall Engineering is in line with our strategy to broaden the Group’s portfolio by adding adjacent services and will allow Cape to offer a broader range of maintenance services to our key clients within the UK. BREAKING: Ferrybridge Power Station To Close In 2016

Up to 180 job losses have tonight been announced at Ferrybridge Power Station.

180 jobs are set to be lost at Ferrybridge Power Station after it was announced a fire last year cause irreparable damage to the plant.

A Unite union spokesperson has said there was a “stunned silence” as the news was announced to staff at a meeting tonight.

It is thought the plant will close by March 2016. A full announcement is expected tomorrow morning.

Blencowe Scaffolding announces new division and investment in Layher

Blencowe Scaffolding Ltd has invested into it’s future by purchasing new Layher system scaffolding, creating a new division for the growing firm.

Blencowe Scaffolding Limited, whose head office is based in Salisbury, today announced that they will have a new division within the company to handle the recently purchased scaffold system, named Modern Access.

The firm has heavily invested in the new scaffold system, from Layher UK, to compliment their existing traditional tube and fitting scaffold services, in order to continue to move the business forward and allow it to become more malleable, extending their current customer database.Capture123

The newly named division, Modern Access within Blencowe Scaffolding, will focus on expanding their current customer database and attracting new customers with a view to working on more special projects throughout Southern England.

Blencowe Scaffolding have trained members of their team to specifically use the new Layher system scaffold and each trained individual will head up a team of their own to roll-out any projects using system scaffold.

The Layher system is centred on a highly versatile ‘rosette’ welded onto each tube that can safely and securely accommodate eight individual connections. Irrespective of height, the scaffolding can be constructed in three dimensions from each rosette. Ledgers or transoms can be connected at right angles as well as the option of different options.

The system is constructed from aluminium material which means that it is low in weight, easy to transport and handle as well as being fully integrated with current health and safety regulations and runs parallel with the safety roll-out from NASC and CSIRS.

Alan Blencowe who is responsible for heading up the new system within the family company says, ‘This is an exciting time for us at Blencowe Scaffolding, not only does it allow us to tender for projects that require a delicate approach, it will also allow us to widen the breadth of products that we can offer existing and new clients and allow us to grow within today’s economy’.

Pat Blencowe, CEO of Blencowe Scaffolding commented, ‘We celebrated 50 years of business last year (2014) and our business has survived 3 recessions. It is imperative to invest in our future and in our work force which is why we chose the system scaffold from Layher UK. Altrad NSG wins Centrica Energy offshore contract

Altrad NSG has been awarded a multi-million pound offshore contract by oil and gas exploration and production company Centrica Energy.

The company has won a five-year contract with Centrica to provide access solutions, repair and maintenance services on both onshore and offshore projects, creating 50 new jobs.

The contract, which has the possibility of being extended by two years upon completion, will see Altrad NSG expand on its existing onshore work at Centrica’s gas terminals in Barrow-in Furness. The business will provide full access, repair and maintenance services, including blasting and painting, as well as insulation and passive fire protection (PFP), to both manned and unmanned offshore platforms off the coast of Morecambe Bay in the East Irish Sea.

Altrad NSG managing director Mike Carr said: “This is our first major offshore contract and is a significant milestone for the business. It is a positive endorsement of the hard work and expertise of our teams and the services Altrad NSG provides.

“Offshore work provides a fantastic opportunity for us as we continue to build on our complete maintenance solution approach and we are now looking towards the North Sea to expand the offshore division of the business.

“Through our onshore work with Centrica in Barrow-in-Furness over the past five years we have built a strong relationship and demonstrated the benefits of our multi-discipline approach. By providing a turnkey solution to clients under one umbrella, we can save time and reduce costs while improving communication and the level of service delivered.”

SHS appoints former All Blacks star to tackle new business

SHS Integrated Services has appointed former All Blacks star Xavier Rush to head up its new business development strategy.

A prominent figure in professional rugby for more than 20 years, Xavier Rush won eight caps with New Zealand before retiring from professional rugby in 2012. Xavier, 37, will now be responsible for strengthening SHS’s relationships with existing clients and driving new business leads across the UK.

Prior to joining SHS, Xavier spent time developing residential properties and currently manages a portfolio of properties. He also spends part of the year in his home city coaching Auckland for the ITM cup, one of New Zealand’s most prestigious rugby competitions.

Based in Barry, South Wales, with regional offices in Doncaster and Haverford West, SHS has witnessed a number of high profile contract wins in the last year and successfully developed the insulation arm of the business. In addition to the company’s recent expansion, SHS has diversified its market sector presence, incorporating the specialist power and transmission firm it acquired in 2013 into the business’ long term growth plans.

Altrad completes acquisition of Hertel

Altrad and the shareholders of Hertel have today finalized the acquisition of Hertel’s worldwide access solutions, insulation, corrosion protection and mechanical businesses by Altrad.

Scaffmag first reported the £163M acquisition of Hertel in March, today (12 June) the consultation processes with Hertel’s works council has been completed and the competition authorities have approved the transaction.

The Offshore business of Hertel is not included in this transaction and will continue to operate as a separate company under the name CKT Offshore. Hertel’s senior management will continue to be involved in Offshore’s operations to safeguard a seamless transition to the new situation.

The combination of Altrad and Hertel, which will have a joint annual turnover in excess of € 1.6 billion and employing approximately 17,000 people, will result in a leading company in its businesses in Europe, the Middle East, Caspian and Asia Pacific.

Altrad NSG obtains £16.5m chemicals contract renewals

Altrad NSG helps to secure up to 165 jobs after securing multi-million pound contract renewals with two of the UK’s leading chemicals firms.

The scaffolding and industrial services company based in Deeside, which operates across the whole of the UK has today announced the firm has renewed contracts with INOVYN ChlorVinyls and Tata Chemicals to provide access solutions, repair and maintenance services across several sites in the North West.

The three-year contracts have a combined value of up to £16.5m, enabling the firm to continue its existing work at INOVYN ChlorVinyls’ chlorine production site in Runcorn, providing services including insulation, surface preparation, blasting and painting.

Altrad NSG will also deliver full access, repair and maintenance services to Tata Chemicals at the British Salt site in Middlewich, as well as its production plants in Winnington and Lostock.

Mike Carr, Managing Director at Altrad NSG, said: “These contracts are a fantastic boost and fill us with confidence that our unique approach to client needs puts us in a strong position to continue our expansion and create further jobs.

“Our collaborative approach, experience and expertise has allowed us to develop excellent long-term relationships with INOVYN ChlorVinyls and Tata Chemicals, evidenced by the fact we’ve been working with INOVYN ChlorVinyls in Runcorn for more than 20 years now.

“By working in partnership with our clients we can meet project goals safely, on time and within budget.”

Back in June the firm announced that it had been awarded its first major offshore contract after securing a five-year agreement with oil and gas exploration and production company Centrica Energy.

48.3 announce the launch of a new Northern regional office and the appointment of a new team member.

One of the UK’s leading design firms 48.3 Scaffold Design has today announced the launch of their new Northern Regional Office based in Leeds, Yorkshire. The launch comes after the company’s services, headquartered in the South has been in huge demand nationwide in recent years.

48.3 have also announced the appointment of Ivik Masek to head up the new regional office and joins the firm’s Board of Directors.

New team member Ivik Masek has a wealth of experience in Design Engineering. Having been lucky enough to work for Alwyn Richards for the past ten years, Ivik has had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects including power stations, new builds and shopping centres plus the well documented £8 million refurbishment of Selby Swing Bridge and Lincoln Cathedral. This experience has allowed him to develop expertise in specialised fields including Network Rail and Historical Listed Buildings.

Ivik is also a professionally qualified Engineering Technician and is a active member of the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE). In recent years he has also become a ICE Reviewer, assessing candidates who want to become professional members and encouraging high standards in the industry.

Ivik added: “I am really excited to be taking on the challenge of running and developing the 48.3 Northern Regional Office. I have known Ben Beaumont for over ten years so when the opportunity came about to work with him and the team it was one I couldn’t turn down. We both have very similar mindsets and both strive to continuously improve the industry, there are endless opportunities for 48.3 to explore and it’s a very exciting time for both the company and myself”.

Burflex expands after investing £750,000 on new vans

Hull based Burflex Scaffolding Ltd beats the recession and continues to expand after investing £750,000 purchasing 47 new vans.

The major investment comes after the family owned business has shown impressive solid growth over the last four years growing it’s turnover from £2M in 2011 to almost £10M in 2015.

The firm was established 12 years ago by Steve Cox and his wife Tracy and two staff, the husband and wife team now employs 147 people.

Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail, Managing Director, Steve Cox said:

“We’ve steadily grown through the recession.

“The company has been developing the right management structure to make it possible for us to grow.

“It was tough through the recession but we’re a proactive bunch.”

Mr Cox said his firm survived through a focus on keeping existing customers and careful management.

He said: “I think the main reason we’ve been successful in the recession is repeat custom.

“There are a lot of people we’ve worked for prior to the recession who’ve kept us in work.

“We’re now certainly one of the largest family-owned scaffolding firms in Yorkshire, and possibly beyond.”

The business is now rumoured to be setting its sights to expand further by breaking into the Petrochemical and heavy industry.

Cape wins new offshore Clair Ridge contract worth £9.8M

Cape plc has been awarded a new offshore Clair Ridge contract with BP worth £9.8M securing 170 Jobs.

Cape plc, a leader in the supply of critical industrial services to the energy and natural resources sectors, continues it’s current relationship with BP after being awarded a new Clair Ridge contract worth £9.8m, with further future phases added over the next 18 months.

Clair Ridge, 75km west of Shetland, is the second phase of development within the Clair field – the largest undeveloped hydrocarbon resource on the UKCS. The contract is in support of the hook-up and commissioning of BP’s two new bridge-linked Clair Ridge platforms. Effective from July 2015, the contract will secure around 170 jobs for Cape employees through the provision of core services including access, insulation, coating, passive fire protection and platform services for the Clair Ridge hook-up work.

Joe Oatley, Chief Executive, Cape plc said: “We are delighted to be awarded this further contract by BP. Cape has a longstanding relationship with BP and we look forward to continuing to work with this important client to deliver our critical industrial services to this prestigious project”.
